ASCII art works by using the silhouettes of text characters to form an image; meaning is created visually, without the symbols carrying any linguistic information. Inspired by this, I wanted to push the concept even further: what happens when the characters are removed entirely, leaving only the physical form of the keyboard itself?
Drawing on Berger’s idea that seeing precedes language, and Magritte’s insistence that both image and language can be deceptive, this project challenges these concepts through keyboards stripped of all text and symbols. Without any linguistic cues, the viewer is left to construct meaning purely through form, questioning whether removing language brings us closer to truth or simply opens up a new space for misreading.
